One of the most attended Jam Night - Open Mic Sessions in Shenzhen. Blues n Jam Night at The Blu Bamboo Shekou (Sea World, just a few steps from Mc Donald's) Every Wednesday, hosted by Kaktooz.
Jamming starts at 10pm till late. Monday night, Shekou: With no plans of going to a bar, I went out just to get a fast meal at McDonald's over Sea World when I heard the unmistakable sound of a live band banging away. That persuasive loud sound came from the Ghost Bar and it's their Monday Jam Night. I just had to take a look and inside were most of the members of Mind The Gap, namely Larry Bunso, Albert, Yalik and Richard. Mind The Gap is Shekou's pioneer rock band with a kick-ass performance. Jamming with them was Franck a French drummer and Jim Mazdea, Boston's former drummer and founding member. I just had to stop awhile to watch, listen and have a drink.
Open Mic or Jam Nights most times can be more fulfilling than the usual nights performers play since during those times the musicians can truly release the artist within them without compromise. One song after another, the momentum was building up. From blues, rock n roll, heavy rock to jazz, the spirit of real free jam was in the air. To mark the finale, Jim went up to play drums and for that moment, Ghost Bar which is only about the area of a moderately sized living room seemed like a giant stadium with thousands of people watching. It was true magic and in your face rock star drumming at its very best and Mind The Gap was up for the challenge. I was just at awe and felt so blessed to have witnessed such an event of epic proportions in that small corner of Shekou, and it's not even a weekend... it's Monday! - Dennis Briones
